On Cloverfield
While in LA, we had some free time to spare before heading out to Magnolia’s for dinner with Paul so we went into Mann’s theatre on Hollywood Blvd to give Cloverfield a whirl and to see what the whole fuss was about.
Let me just say this. Not that I wish for anything like that to happen but I’ve always been fascinated by movies that deal with something inexplicable taking over the world so in that sense, I was captivated by the plot of the film. But the delivery was just f*cking awful. We had just had some Mexican food prior to the viewing and just sitting there trying to keep focus of the insane vertigo that we were experience was excruciating. Blair Witch was much easier to follow than this sh*t.
The most often publicized element of the film was in how the camera would allowed the audience to literally be in the actors shoes as they strived to survive throughout the movie. But my thing is that this could have been achieved through conventional camera use in order to avoid all the dizziness but in their defense, I have to admit that the special effects were great.
