No Country for Old Men
No Country for Old Men is the type of film that I initially had no interested in watching but felt compelled to after the numerous awards it had been honored with thus far. I can’t vouch for information that might have been left out from the literary adaptation but I enjoyed the suspense, thriller and plot that was presented.
Javier Bardema does a great job portraying the terrifying psychopath who kills with little forethought and no remorse. He murders his victims with a captive bolt pistol, a kind of air-pressured steel rod that’s used to knock out cattle before they’re slaughtered.
After seeing this movie, poorly lit scenes in other films become very noticeable. Generally great background music is what makes a film, but the absence of it is the strong attribute of this movie. The dialogue in this movie is sparse, especially considering that it’s the Coens we’re discussing here. Silence can be just as frightening as sound, and the Coens have proved it here. This movie truly is a masterpiece. Go see it. It’s worth the admission price and I hope it does really well in the Oscars.
