So as of now, there really is no legitimate way (at least not to Apple standards) to install native applications onto your iPhone unless you’ve opted to veer towards the dark side with what we all know as jailbreak.
Apple yesterday finally introduced the much awaited SDK package for developers or aspiring ones, for them to concoct amazing applications and for us just users, to relish them via the soon to be released App Store. See the video for complete details. The App store sounds very promising and upon it’s release, I have no reservations in spending a couple bucks on apps that will enhance my experience and productivity with the iPhone.
I have to say that Apple is by far one of my favorite companies and you have to commend them in how they get the public to work for them. For example, I always asked myself, “how come Apple never built in AIM into the iPhone?”. The answer is that they rather focus their time in developing the tools needed to create such an application, make it available to anyone and have them create it. Essentially having companies do the work themselves but the payoff is in knowing that the application will reach mass distribution once it becomes an option to download or purchase. It really is a two way street. Apple says, “You make the application and we’ll take care of the marketing”. Sounds like a sweet deal to me.
