1. Video Camera Shopping

Most of my media sharing at the moment revolves strongly around photography. Second to my passport and luggage, I always make sure my camera is accounted for when going on trips. But now with the much publicized ability to share “long photos” on Flickr, lately I’ve been more inclined to participate and experiment more with video, which in essence means that I’m in the market for a video camera that encompasses 3 main elements:

    • Size: My current camcorder is quite outdated and the thought of lugging it around on vacation this summer on a cruise is out of the question, so portability is essential yet without compromising quality.
    • Resolution: At this age in time, I wouldn’t settle for anything less than HD capability, so enough said on that subject.
    • Cost: As I mentioned before, my passion revolves more around photography and I actively practice it, which is why I had no qualms about dishing out the money for my Nikon D80 but this time for video, I don’t intend to put out motion pictures with it but merely to record comedic and/or memorable moments, so what I’m saying is that I don’t want to spend too much money on this new video camera.
Based on my requirements, I’ve been sifting through many online reviews and I particularly enjoyed this one but when it comes to the actual purchase, my best bet is to actually play around with a couple at retail stores. Any recommendations?
