There’s a gas station around my neighborhood that I frequent a lot because I like to think that the owner really understands the whole dance of supply and demand. What he’s generally done in the past is set the price on gas lower than you would expect in a crisis like we’re going through at the moment. I’m talking at least 15 to 20 cents lower than competition and because of this bold choice, based on the long trail of cars that he’s incurred, I would assume that he’s generated more money charging a cheaper price than what it’s really worth based on the economy.
So this morning I left home earlier than usual to stop by this particular gas station, and as I was pulling up, I noticed that several cars where shying away from getting serviced. As I got close, I was made aware that the station was only accepting cash for purchases at least only for this week and that the prices were no longer lower that what I’m use to seeing. In fact, it was higher than what I expected; $4.15 for regular. It’s times like this I owned a Vespa.
