1. Behind Cloverfield

The secrecy surrounding the movie Cloverfield and the novel approach in filming is what drew me to see it in the first place but the only thing I walked away with was a headache, a state of confusion and one severe stomachache due mostly to a burrito I had eaten earlier.

Despite all of this, I rented the movie last night because I was more interested in the behind-the-scene footage of how it was made. The visual effects were so seamlessly integrated using mostly a technique called “match-moving”, duplicating a camera that existed in the real world and following it’s exact movements in a CGI environment so that when you overlay something that is digital, everything syncs together and lines up in the movie as one. I found it interesting also how director Matt Reeves pointed out that they hope to have sparked a new approach in filming for upcoming movie makers and wouldn’t be surprise to see them first on YouTube.
