Organizing iTunes

Vanessa and I both share the entire music library on the MBP. We both have our own particular taste with music but regardless of what we listen to, one thing is for sure; our library will only get larger and larger and it can become unmanageable if you don’t tame that beast right away.

I could have taken the exhaustive route of manually doing drag & drop into playlist that I created but as a pragmatist, I decided to utilized an overlooked function that iTunes makes readily available to make sorting less daunting. I used Smart Playlist.

In my case, I didn’t have each of my songs categorized into genres, so I spent 1hr of my life taking care of that. The main advantage to using the “sorting by genre” route is that it then becomes very easy to create smart playlists based off of this by either including or excluding certain genres. Not completely rocket science but more about patience in organizing your music.
