You’re taking over a country facing huge economic, moral and political decisions. I’ve got to ask you, why in the world would you want this job? So much stress. So many people criticizing and analyzing every move you make. Even the tiniest decisions you make can affect millions. How do you deal with that kind of responsibility?
~ Brad’s open letter to Obama
Barack Obama’s inaugural organizing committee has struck deals with three television networks to the tune of more than $5 million, giving the networks exclusive access to inaugural events. It’s just another form of generating money that hopefully will be used to revitalize the economy but I can’t help sharing Olivia Munn’s view on this tactic:
In this economy, I understand making the most out of every situation, but some things- like the inauguration- shouldn’t be for sale, in my opinion. Especially when they’re using the Lincoln Memorial to broadcast from (which belongs to everyone, not just politicians).
The New York Times asked more than 200 people in 14 states (half red, half blue) to identify their greatest hopes for what Barack Obama might accomplish during his time as president. Their responses where recorded and displayed in interactive speech bubbles, entitled “29 Hopes”.
