At this point I have the whole embarkation and debarkation process of cruising down to a science. In celebration of our 1-year marriage anniversary, we’ve booked a 7-day Caribbean vacation with the whole family between May 16th - 23rd which sets sail from San Juan, Puerto Rico. We’re flying down a day early to explore the town even more.
There is an old out-dated saying “If you go on a cruise, your either newly wed, nearly dead, or over-fed” none of which have to be the case to cruise but the fact is that these ships offer more than what you would get on a land based vacation which is why this will be my fourth. As always, I packed my photographic gear first before my clothes.

Having taken the waterproof housing for the Canon with us on vacation, I could not have left the cruise without the opportunity of going down the slide a couple times with it. Photographing in the caribbean was incredible but extending that obsession onto video and water was refreshing.

Internet access onboard is rather expensive (¢75 per minute), hence the lack of updates but I can tell you that the weather and vacation has been amazing so far and I’m pretty content that I rented the fisheye lens for the trip. Here’s a quick shot as we sail away from Miami and we enjoy some drinks to kickoff the evening onboard.

Cruise vacations are not only amazing but they’re just straight down addicting. Depending on when you book, they are an excellent value because so much is already included in the price that all you have to do is bring a hearty appetite, a tolerance for liquor and a passion to explore new destinations.
My wife and I are flying down to Miami to board a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise on Carnival between Oct 18 -25th. Every port of call will be new to us and at the moment all I can look forward to is the endless photographic opportunities. Among some of the gear that I’m taking with me is a Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye lens and an underwater housing for our Canon P&S. Peace out! -
Going on Eastern Caribbean
Last time I mentioned vacation, we were still deliberating whether our next one would be a European or Caribbean one. Normally we’ve booked all of our excursions via Expedia but for this one, I needed more information than what you can’t get from a screen so we visited Liberty Travel for booking. We had a blast in Paris & London last summer and I really wanted to replicate the experience elsewhere in Europe but at the moment the travel agent advised that the exchange rate of the Euro is extremely high relative to last year.
So to make a long story short, we booked a 7 Day Carnival Cruise to the eastern caribbean. Countries we’ll be visiting include: Bahamas (Half Moon Cay), St. Thomas, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Grand Turk. We’ll be flying to Miami on July 12th to board.
Never been on a cruise before but from what I hear, activities and amenities onboard are endless. Luckily we’ll only be 2 full days at see out of the 7. Needless to say that despite all the recent talks about the downturn in the economy and how it’s causing Americans to cut back on spending, we figured you only live once and following this vacation, I’ll be embarking upon yet another important stage in my life with my girlfriend which will require being home more.
